Why do so many people wear sneakers nowadays?

The reasons are wide and varied. I will try and answer as many I can. Let's dive in, here goes at least 5 main reasons why do so many people wear sneakers nowadays.

Surface

For basket ball players and others who use an indoor sports arena, they will observe that the floor tends to be made of hardwood, which is a dense wood with fine fibers, this makes it resistant to splintering.
This makes the surface very smooth, so a regular shoe with a regular smooth bottom, could cause the players to slip and fall, so sneakers are a better choice.

Another type of flooring that could cause serious injury are high gloss tile floors like ceramic and porcelain floor tiles, they are very slippery,  just walking on them in bare foot (especially if the floor is wet ) could cause you a trip to the hospital. Even when you walk on them with socks on it could be dangerous, the best solution? Wear a good grip sneaker or sandal.

Weather
In some countries it rains a lot, or they might have a particular rainy season that could go on for months.
As a consequence, flooding and landslides are regular occurrences.  To get around, a sneaker is more ideal. Sneakers covers the foot up to the ankle, the bottom of most sneakers are made of thick rubber, which acts a natural barriers against the water, debris and germs. Sneakers also accommodate the wearing of thick socks.

Convenience
You could be in a job that requires you to be on your feet all day.
This can become an issue for persons who have flat feet. Because when you have flat feet - your feet tire easily, and the inside bottoms of your feet become swollen. Additionally, you suffer from back and leg pain, and your arch and heels becomes painful over time. To alleviate this, specially made sneakers are to the rescue.

Health issues

Many people who have flat feet or who suffer with weak ankles may find that sneakers works for them too, as it offer cushioning and heel support. The winter could present a special challenge for them, they could slip and fall in the snow or in icy poodles of water, if they are wearing regular shoes with no grip or sturdiness, and if they are elderly we all know the outcome may not be good news.
